The Drexel University i-School online Master of Science in Library and Information Science program has an innovative curriculum with a strong technological background.  I chose to specialize in school libraries and youth services in order to better meet the information and educational needs of students.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL LIBRARIANS

American Association of School Librarians lays out the mission, vision and standards for School Library Media Specialists in "Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs" (AASL, 2009), Standards for the 21st-Century Learner in Action" (AASL, 2009), and Information Power (ALA, 1999):

• The school library media specialist "empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information"
• The school library media specialist can use the information literacy standards for student learning to create and maintain a program for a broad learning community: students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the neighborhood - that will support lifelong learning.
• The school library media specialist strives to instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information.
