Websites

The 21st-century learner operates at twitch speed.  They are wired and connected - digital natives.  To succeed in the ever changing global society students will need to develop multiple literacies; including digital, textual, and technological.  The goal is to develop critical thinkers who are effective users of ideas and information.  Educators of today's students must be savvy to the rich media tools available to help them to develop student's critical thinking, communication and collaborative problem solving.  The use of multimedia and Web 2.0 is the perfect avenue to reach this goal.

The following are a selection of websites, blogs, and other social media tools I have created with the 21st-century student in mind.  Some of the sites were developed in collaboration with other Drexel University students from the Education or Library and Information Science Departments.

Educational Tools

Library Kokua is a website to help students to find information to become better researchers.  There are links to libraries, databases, citation and copyright information, magazines and newspapers, and more.  Primarily directed at middle and high school students, college students or others doing research will find this site helpful.  http://library-kokua.yolasite.com

Keiki Books Blog is a blog I originally developed to review books read during courses in literature for children and young adults.  It has evolved to also contain useful links of interest to young readers and educators.  The blog also contains extensive lists of therapeutic books in the area of anger, conflict resolution, grief and trauma, divorce and parenting support.  Widgets from Amazon, Shelfari, and Library Thing round this site out to be and interactive space to explore children's literature.  http://keikibooks.blogspot.com

Middle School Community Service is a wiki I developed as an informational source for students involved in Community Service.  Students can monitor activities and make edits and posts on the site.  http://middleschoolcommunityservice.wikispaces.com

RCHS Library Media Center Website I developed to support the curricular and leisure information needs of students in grades 8-12 at Rappahannock High School.  https://sites.google.com/a/rappahannockschools.us/rchs-library/

Search Dragon Wiki is a wiki developed to help students create effective searches for information and to understand how to ethically use the information.  This site was developed as a collaborative effort to create a site for young adults to become effective users of information. Co-led the development of the site and continue to be the principal in the maintenance of the site.  http://ktencza.wikispaces.com

Portaportal is a web-based bookmarking tool.  My Portaportal has my favorites for educators.  My links are under subheadings of  Web 2.0, Search Engines & Directories, Curriculum, Multimedia in the Curriculum, Rubrics, Fun & Games, Audio Visual, Statistics & Census, Information Literacy, Libraries, Internet Safety, Young Adult, Counseling Resources, and China.                      http://guest.portaportal.com/annabowman

Library Thing is a social cataloging web tool that allows users to store and share personal catalogues and reviews.  Books are tagged for ease of use and identification.  My LibraryThing contains 75 of my personal favorite children's books with a therapeutic message.   http:librarything.com/home/annabowman

Social Networking 2.0  is a interactive website developed to educate teens on the various aspects of social networking.  Information on social networking websites, blogs & wikis, multimedia, virtual world & games, E-Zines, and other related topics can be found on the site. Social Networking 2.0 was developed as a collaborative effort that I served as team leader and continue to maintain.  http://social-networking.yolasite.com

Great Game of China is a website based middle school ancient China lesson plan with content and assessment tools woven into the multimedia design.  This site was developed as a collaborative effort for a course on effectively integrating multimedia into the curriculum.  I also served as team leader in the development of this dynamic tool.

Leisure and Travel

Lanikai House (2010)  is a website I developed to market our home in Hawaii as a rental.  The site also has information for those seeking more information about living on Oahu and in the Kailua area.  http://lanikai.yolasite.com

Lanikai Wiki is my wiki I developed for people searching for information about the neighborhood of Lanikai in the town of Kailua, Hawaii.  My goal is to make this the definitive site for Lanikai information.  I receive a high hit count on this site and visits from around the world.  http://lanikai.wikispaces.com
